Return to LA - On a flight from DFW to LAX
Avenues apart Streets that dart
East of that River that divides the State
Flat plains of green trees slowly part
Hot humid air adding ounces of weight
Two flights, two journeys apart
Going south west, going straight west
Leaving the night sky behind dark
Heading to the place of the sun rest
Thirty thousand feet up in the sky
Crossing over the panhandle warm and dry
T Town reflects the sunlight on the borderline
The route of six and six marches on its way
Purple haze and dark blue night sky velvet touch
White clear dots weaved into waves of night light
Horse town south of that ship shaped rock
Paintings of vast space aging of wood into rock
Craters from the vastness of space so low
Mountains from the great ages so high
Trees of the Saguaro turn into those of Josh
Dry lands of rattle and stings turn to palm wash
Emptiness left behind fullness takes over
Dirt roads leads to a dirty and grey highway
Salty air and endless lights line the runway
Waters of the deep blue lie ahead looking black
Loosing height, loosing speed right on track
Touchdown with wheels down
The rubber meets the road
Could all this happen any other way
This is my return to LA
