I can be friends with a dog now
I can be friends with a dog now
I have finally learned the why and how
I have let go of the word pet
Who am I to own a pet or let
Let this noble being be owned by me
Therein lies the basic fallacy
To have a dog as a companion and friend
Is the greatest honor to all beings I send
A Dog’s life is sweet and full of sense
A sixth of my potential existence
A Dog shows unconditional love
It brings a higher sense of up and above
To have this honor to serve this noble being
Would be the greatest transformative seeking
Rather than look at me as the master
I seek to serve in the joy and laughter
It brings to us without any condition
Just pure love and a joyous rendition
Of what life can be and should be
It shows me in its brief time to be
So rather than be scared of emotional attachment
I seek to serve this noble being with full detachment
I will journey with him or her for the few years we’re together
I will serve and love him or her with joyous compassion forever
For a Dog’s life is my lesson to learn
That right I seek to love and earn
And in the end we all come alone and leave alone
But knowing I got to know a dog, my mind stays blown
No more will ask when, why, where and how
I can be friends with a Dog now
Guess who’s the old dog after all
Be Mindful. Stand Tall.
