Curveballs Abound

It seems like 2020 keeps throwing curveballs at us with no breaks. I like curveballs as they provide great opportunities for me to get stronger in being mindful and being aware of my own reactions. These uncertainties provide a very high diving board for me to deep dive off to get to the root causes of how I feel, who I am and what is that I strive to be.

So, the latest curveball obviously for most of us is President Trump testing positive with Covid-19 and being treated for it as we speak at Walter Reed. This has brought an understandable amount of anxiety to many of us. Heck, if he can get sick then any of us can is the group think right now. It is a cause to feel groundless and apprehensive. So, let’s all feel that way for a few hours and even 2-3 days and then what? I am always fascinated by the phase of “Then What?”. How long will I continue to be anxious and worry. At what point does it get to be boring? Yes, I said it…..boring! At what point do we want to continue to feel hapless and helpless and sorry for things, the way they are.

I keep hearing and matter of fact started my log with the group thought of Curveballs as in ‘unpredictable events’. We hear the term ‘New Normal’ ad-nauseam. There are 3 things that are certain in life:

  1. We are all going to leave this body at some point…

  2. We have no idea when we will leave this body…

  3. We ain’t’ taking anything with us when we do leave this body as far as we know…

So, the question then begs is why can’t we get past this feeling of being groundless and our apparent inability to deal well with change?

Mindfulness can be that effective tool and the CPA Mindfulness Practice that I instruct could be that tool that will help us in an experiential way to come to terms with the 2 basic concepts of change and impermanence.

And then as we do experience both change and impermanence in our lives, our relationships, our country and the world as a whole, it just becomes par for the course and we instead use these transitions to evolve by going within deeper than before.

So as so many of us pray for President Trump to get well and as we pray for stability of our country, take a break from the news and social. Go within and use this CurveBall to improve how you bat in life. All we need is one hit and moving to first base to feel this momentum…..

Get well President Trump and we are all rooting for you to be back in great health, regardless of our politics…..

Be Mindful this week….
